Back to My Hometown – Part 3
@ Memorial Gateway Street

As we known that Chaozhou is a famous historical and cultural city in the country. The city’s feature is known as “Classic Tourist City” which receives numerous tourists both from abroad and home. There are many valuable historic relics in Chaozhou city, totally about 600 units and among them 42 are classified as the state, provincial and city’s key preservation units of cultural relics.
The Memorial Gateway Street is one of  the main streets of old city area. At the ancient time, it was very prosperous so that people like to set up memorial gateways in this street in order to record their story or honor from one generation to anther. But during the war time and the “great cultural revolution” period, almost all the gateway were destroyed. To recover these precious cultural properties and enhance the attraction of Chaozhou as a  “Classic Tourist City”, the Gov. decided to rebuild those memorial gateways and the other buildings along this street. So here we came to the The Memorial Gateway Street~just after leaving the veggie kitchen restaurant

It’s said that each gateway have a story to tell. And there are many many gateways here. I am wondering who call tell all the stories of these gateways… :?:
The buildings along the street are very special too. You can find out that it isn’t the Chinese traditional building style. Those building were building during the semi-feudal semi-colonial period and republican period. So the main characteristic style is combining the orient and west world building art. A little similar to the street sigh at Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street in Canton.
